How the Sassafras Science Adventures Series Works

How the Sassafras Science Adventures WorksThe books of The Sassafras Science Adventures series can be read alone or you can add in the activity guide and logbook, or lapbooking guide, creating a full science curriculum. Either way, your students will love to learn science through this zip line adventure!

Each novel follows the Sassafras twins as they zip around the world learning about zoology, anatomy, or botany. Along the way, they will meet local experts who highlight an aspect of science as they journey through each leg.

Theses living books will hold your students’ attentions, while you can use the support materials to reinforce the information they are learning.

The completed series will contain 8 books, each designed to take half a year to cover.

The Sassafras Science Adventures series includes the following:

  • An adventure-style fictional novel for a given area of science which can be used as a read-aloud for K-adult or independent reader for 5th-adult.
  • A coordinating activity guide and SCIDAT logbook which are designed to help you create a full science curriculum from the Sassafras books. The activity guide includes chapter summaries, encyclopedia readings, additional book suggestions, experiments, copywork, vocabulary, and so much more!
  • An optional lapbooking guide which includes additional books suggestions, vocabulary, experiments, and lapbook templates.

When you use the series as your main science curriculum, you will:

  1. Read a chapter in the adventure-style fictional book each week.
  2. Then, you will choose one or more activities from the activity or lapbooking guide to enhance what the students have learned from the novel.
  3. The students will record what they have learned in their own SCIDAT logbook or lapbook.

The novel and the support materials work together to create a full homeschool science curriculum.
